Just Your Average Weekend (Saturday)

Once school starts up, our weekends tend to get pretty hectic. Between Girl Scout events, birthday parties and play dates, it is non-stop. Last year, we decided that Isabel would start dance classes on the first Saturday when she didn’t have anything planned. That Saturday NEVER came. So, while this weekend was crazy, that was just average for us!
Saturday, my parents took Ryan and a disappointed Isabel stayed behind. To lighten her spirits, I took her to her favorite place – Chuck Wagon. She loves breakfast. And she loves it even more there.
Unfortunately, our walk from the parking to the restaurant’s front door took us past a cat that seemed to have been hit by a car. I was impressed with Isabel for wanting to look at it up close, but our breakfast conversation did not really veer off the topic of the dead cat with its eye coming out of the socket. (I kindly did NOT take a picture of the cat for you.) We managed to eat, despite the lovely table conversation. And thank goodness, we had no neighbors to overhear it!
A delicious meal in our bellies, we headed to the Girl Scouts Rally. I was expecting it to be a few troops, but it was packed. And it was HOT. Until it poured down rain. But we got there an hour before our nail painting shift (and the rain), so Isabel got to enjoy some of the other booths.
She really liked playing soccer in oversized shoes.
And winning a Nike bag.
I’m not sure what she learned by shooting a Nerf gun. Maybe she learned that one should only be violent with use soft toys. And that she is not great at shooting a Nerf gun. She definitely learned to take the last prize before anyone else does (even if it’s a popsicle stick painted with glitter glue).
She was captivated by a lesson on making a friendship bracelets – though I may have enjoyed that even more than she did!
We met up with Isabel’s best friend for basketball and snow cones right before it was our turn in the troop booth.
(Of course, Ashley needed her OWN Nike bag!)
This booth taught the girls how hard women had it when they first started playing basketball. (I’m not sure they should have had the basket this low.)
That’s what we call “double-fisting” Girl Scout style!
Our booth:
I was REALLY proud of how sweet Isabel was to the girls whose nails she painted.
It started down pouring, which meant the girls could run around in the rain – our client base having been reduced significantly. They enjoyed jumping in the bounce house drenched.
When the rain finally let up a bit, I took Ashley, and a very heavy folding table, back to her house. This delivery, incidentally, turned into a play date, which turned into a sleepover. Not that I’m complaining. I was quite content to spend time at their house, chatting, laughing, drinking, and eating.
(This guy was formerly Ludlam’s most eligible bachelor. He has now moved on to middle school and turned into a rock star.)
I have no idea what they are talking about here, but Ashley’s face just CRACKS me up. I am sure I’ve looked at my dad that way at least once.
We were advised that if we were interested in photography, we may want to look around… Which led us to find this:
It works out well that Ashley’s mom is MY BFF, though maybe she won’t be after I posted her picture! 🙂
