Seeing Stars

I went to lunch today with some dear friends (and a decent acquaintance). Well, there was no parking at Chipotle, of course, so Amber and I parked at Party City and felt obliged to shop in return for the parking. Not needing any party supplies, I remembered an idea I had. I started looking for some star confetti, and found it! I picked up the confetti and some other stars, completely inspired to take some portraits of Isabel. If there were props, I knew she’d be interested! (AND she REALLY was – she jumped off the bed and dropped her book.) My inspiration were some shots by Shannon Sewell, like this one. Shannon is a seriously amazing children’s editorial photographer.
Isabel had fun with it (as did the neighbors), but I waited too late to get us started. It got dark quickly, which made the whole thing feel a bit rushed – not the energy needed for ethereal shots, for sure.
I learned a lot, but I’m still not sure exactly how to get Isabel to look as relaxed and dreamy as the girl in the inspiring photo looks. And to get her hands and face looking that natural. Any suggestions?
